Alden E. Habacon is a diversity specialist in the area of interculturalism in Canada, diversity in media and journalism, and strategic diversity initiatives. He is the Manager of Diversity Initiatives for CBC Television, where over the past five years he has been working on the development and implementation of CBC's national diversity strategy.He is also the founder of Schema Magazine (www.schemamag.ca), an online magazine whose mandate is to reflect the most culturally mobile and complexly diverse generation of 1.5 and Second-Generation Canadians ever observed. He speaks regularly at universities and journalism programs and is a sought-after speaker across Canada and around the world, having been a featured speaker at numerous diversity conferences and symposiums, including the prestigious Couchiching Institute of Public Affairs (CIPA) Summer Conference, Metropolis (Canadian Heritage), the Seminar on Cultural Diversity and Broadcasting (co-hosted by the Asia-Pacific Institute of Broadcaster Development and the Canadian High Commission in Malaysia), the 2008 Discrimination Prevention Forum, the 2008 ASEAN-Canada Dialogue on Interfaith Initiatives in Surabaya, Indonesia (co-hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade), and various presentations for the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA) and the International Broadcasters Trust (IBT).
He has also has shared his perspectives on "Multiculturalism 2.0" to numerous federal agencies, such as Canadian Heritage and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the Department of Justice. Alden is on the Technology Advisory for the Vancouver International Writers Festival and is a former board member of the Vancouver Contemporary Art Society. Alden completed his BFA in Visual Arts at the School for Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University.
