• Sir Wilfred Laurier"For here in Canada, I want the marble to remain the marble; the granite to remain the granite; the oak to remain the oak; and out of these elements, I would build a nation great among the nations of the world.".. Sir Wilfred Laurier
  • John DiefenbakerCanada is not "a melting pot in which the individuality of each element is destroyed in order to produce a new and totally different element. It is rather a garden into which have been transplanted the hardiest and brightest flowers from many lands, each retaining in its new environment the best of the qualities for which it was loved and prized in its native land." Prime minister, John Diefenbaker

About Us

The Laurier Institution was founded in 1989 by business and community leaders to advance and disseminate knowledge about the economic and social implications of Canadian diversity. The Laurier Institution is a national, non-profit, non-partisan organization. Our research and educational activities are funded by membership fees, donations, sponsorships, and project-based funding.

The Laurier Institution is named after Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier (1841-1919). The dominant political figure of his era, Laurier articulated and pursued a vision of Canadian unity and co-operation between Canada's founding peoples, and oversaw one of the largest expansions of Canada's population.
