Art Reitmayer, FCA

In May of 2002, Art assembled a core group of broadcasters to join him in building and launching channel m, Vancouver’s only local over the air Multicultural television service.   As President and CEO and part owner, Art oversaw all operational aspects of the station as well as financing, regulatory representation to the Broadcast Regulator the CRTC and actively represents channel m in the community at large.  In July of 2007, channel m announced that it had reached agreement with Rogers Broadcasting to acquire the station’s assets and licence for $60 million.  The sale which was subject to the approval of the CRTC closed in April of 2008.   

Art’s broadcast management career began in 1984 with local television station CKVU in Vancouver. In 1990, he moved to WIC’s (Western International Communications) radio stations, CKNW and CFMI, as Vice President of Finance.  In 1991 he joined WIC’s corporate team and over the next two years was involved in radio and television acquisitions for the company as well as licensing applications for new specialty television services.  In 1993, Art was named General Manager of WIC’s CKRD-TV station in Red Deer, Alberta and in 1996, he became President and CEO of CKRD, ITV, Allarcom Production Studios and Studio Post in Edmonton.

In December 1996, Art returned to Vancouver as President and CEO of WIC’s BC operations which included BCTV, CHEK-TV and CHBC TV in Kelowna.  In 1999, his role expanded to include 10 television stations across Canada as well as its national sales office based in Toronto.

 
Currently, Art is immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors of Arts Umbrella, is a member of the Board of the Laurier Institution and the Advisory for the Vancouver branch of the Learning Partnership.  He is past Chair of the United Way of the Lower Mainland Board of Directors, a former Board member of Volunteer Vancouver, CKNW Orphans' Fund, Seeton Woodward Foundation, BC Association of Broadcasters and the Canadian Association of Broadcasters - Television.  In 2006, Art was recognized with a BC Community Achievement Award
